Weekend in NoMad: Kenny Barron At Jazz Standard

Kenny Barron heads to the NoMad District for four nights at popular venue the Jazz Standard

Legendary jazz pianist Kenny Barron brings his quartet to NoMad for four nights at Jazz Standard.

First hitting the scene as a teen in the late 1950s, Barron’s proficiency garnered him attention from jazz great Dizzy Gillespie. After joining Gillespie’s band in 1962, Barron went on to be the first call pianist for legendary New York jazz musicians like Freddie Hubbard, Stanley Turrentine, Milt Jackson, Buddy Rich and Yusef Lateef.

As a leader, Barron has recorded over 40 albums and been nominated for nine Grammy awards. He returns to the Jazz Standard stage this weekend with Kiyoshi Kitigawa on bass, Johnathan Blake on drums and vibraphonist Stefon Harris.

The band plays sets at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Thursday through Sunday night, with an additional 11:30 p.m. set on Friday and Saturday evenings. Tickets to all sets are $30 per person and can be purchased here.
