The Bad Plus at Jazz Standard
Popular jazz trio The Bad Plus will play six consecutive nights at Jazz Standard in NoMad this week.
The trio has garnered attention and controversy over the past twelve years for their unique blend of avant-garde jazz, classical and rock. The Bad Plus first rose to popularity with a wide range of covers, always harmonically complex and technically virtuosic. The covers include a wide span genres and artists; from Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Blondie, Wilco and Aphex Twin to Ornette Coleman and Paul Motian. The group’s latest project is a sprawling interpretation of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring.
The band features Ethan Iverson on piano, Reid Anderson on bass, and David King on drums. The group will play two sets a night (7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.) Tuesday through Sunday. Tickets are $30 per set and can be purchased here.
