Cyrus Chestnut Plays The Jazz Standard

Head over to The Jazz Standard in NoMad this week and catch the Cyrus Chestnut Trio

Celebrated gospel and jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut leads his trio through four nights at The Jazz Standard.

Cyrus Chestnut has been in the spotlight since he began studying piano at the Peabody Institute at age 9. Since that time, Chestnut has recorded and released 16 records and performed alongside jazz greats like Terence Blanchard, Donald Harrison, Wynton Marsalis, Betty Carter, Isaac Hayes, Chick Corea, Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard and Jimmy Scott.

Chestnut’s latest record, Soul Brother Cool, is a set of diverse and intriguing original compositions. Time Magazine says of his work, “What makes Chestnut the best jazz pianist of his generation is a willingness to abandon notes and play space.”

The trio consists of Chestnut on piano, Dezron Douglas on bass and Neal Smith on drums. The group will play sets at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Thursday through Sunday, with an additional 11:30 p.m. set on Friday and Saturday evenings. Thursday and Sunday evening shows are $25 a person. Friday and Saturday evening shows cost $30 per person.
