Weekend in NoMad: Beyond Rubik’s Cube at Ace Hotel

The Ace Hotel welcome Beyond Rubik's Cube for an afternoon of speedcubing featuring some of the world's fastest Rubik's Cube solvers

The design team from Beyond Rubik’s Cube, the world’s first museum exhibition dedicated to the Rubik’s Cube, will be setting up shop this Saturday afternoon in the Ace Hotel.

Beyond Rubik’s Cube is the New Jersey Liberty Science Center’s current 7,000 square-foot exhibit showcasing the art, engineering and history behind some of the world’s most famous puzzles and games. While the show deals with a range of puzzles, the centerpiece of the exhibit is a study of Erno Rubik’s famous brainbuster: The Rubik’s Cube.

The team at Beyond Rubik’s Cube is bringing some of the fun to the Ace Hotel. The afternoon program, appropriately titled Corners First, focuses on the art of “speedcubing” — a name given to the cult world of competitive Rubik’s Cube solving. The event will feature some of the world’s fastest speedcubers demonstrating their abilities. Former national champion and three-time North American record holder Anthony Brooks will be in attendance, along with 3×3 “single solve time” world record holder Mats Valk and 3×3 “average solve time” world record holder Feliks Zemdegs.

The fun starts at 4 p.m. this Saturday, July 26th free to attend.
