Weekend in NoMad: Danilo Perez’s Broadway Beat at Ace Hotel

Danilo Perez's Broadway Beat returns to the Ace Hotel this weekend

Grammy Award-winning pianist and composer Danilo Perez’s Broadway Beat jazz series continues at the Ace Hotel this weekend. The series pairs Perez’s trademark blend of Pan-American folk music and standard jazz repertoire with specially-designed Ace cocktails on weekend afternoons throughout the summer.

Perez has invited a few special guest collaborators to join in at points throughout the three-hour long concert.

Perez is one of the leading pianists of his generation, having played alongside Terence Blanchard, Dizzy Gillespie, Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden, Wynton Marsalis, Wayne Shorter and Tito Puente. In 1996, Perez was selected to perform at President Clinton’s Inaugural Ball.

Beyond his success as a pianist, Perez has become a leading philanthropist through his work in his native Panama. He recently partnered with the Ace Hotel in opening Danilo’s Jazz Club — a 50-seat jazz club in the heart of Panama’s historic Casco Viejo. Perez uses the club, and his own Danilo Perez Foundation, to promote the jazz culture of Panama.

Danilo Perez’s Broadway Beat runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The event is free and open to the public. Stop by, enjoy a few cocktails, and take in some of the city’s finest jazz.
