Houston’s Sensational Pondicheri Expanding to NoMad New York
A massive hit in the Houston food scene, Pondicheri is bringing its hybrid Indian cuisine to NYC. Having just signed a lease at a 100-seat space at 15 West 27th Street, Pondicheri will introduce one of the Southwest’s most buzzed about chefs, Chef Anita Jaisinghani, to our city.
After making her name in fine dining with Indika, which earned her a James Beard award nomination, Chef Jaisinghani opened Pondicheri and its Bake Lab to offer a casual option to her customers. We’re thrilled to learn that Pondicheri New York will feature both the causal feel of its flagship restaurant Pondicheri and Bake Lab during the day as well as the an upscale dining experience similar to Indika at night.
Pondicheri New York will also feature an extensive breakfast menu. Chef Jaisinghani told Eater that Pondicheri’s breakfast service will be “food to go in the morning, food to stand and eat while you go to work… A lot of quick bites.” While Pondicheri New York’s menu will be unique to this location, Eater is reporting that we can expect items like an “egg wrap with roti bread, masala eggs, and a South Indian-inspired grit dish with cauliflower, green peas, and herbs.”
Chef Jaisinghani’s celebrated Bake Lab deserts will also be coming to NYC, including cookies, chocolate chili, and Pondi Bars (a twist on a granola bar with crisp rice, peanut, raisin, pumpkin seed, and marshmallow). However, they plan to create new options unique to New York.
With Pondicheri just down the block from Inday, NoMad is staking its claim as the hub of trendy Indian food in New York.
