More reason to shop in NoMad this fall! Blu Dot, the interior design store known for its sleek and minimal contemporary furniture designs, is opening a new store at 79 Madison Avenue (at 28th Street)! Blu Dot’s 12,000 sf store comes at a time when more interior and architectural design showrooms, star architects, and interior designers are moving into the area than ever before. Some of the biggest names in design have made NoMad their home, including Jung Lee, Porcelanosa, Marimekko, Humanscale, and Natuzzi, and while Blu Dot joins them, it sets itself apart from the rest with its uniquely affordable, modern design.

Blu Dot was founded by architects Maurice Blanks and John Christakos who realized they didn’t like the furniture they could afford and couldn’t afford what they liked. They joined with sculptor Charlie Lazor to create a useful, affordable, and desirable interior design brand. Their idea was a hit and Blu Dot has been received so well that it now has successful locations in Soho, Chicago, Los Angeles, Mexico City, and its hometown of Minneapolis.

Since the 1997 launching of their brand at the high-end luxury furniture market, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City, Blu Dot has stayed on the cutting edge of modern office and home furniture design. Their furniture has been picked up by the MoMa Design Store as well as home retailers like Zinc Details and Moss, and now their path has led them to NoMad, a community bustling with creativity, designers looking for the right products and finishes, and trendsetters furnishing their own homes.
