Pyeng Threadgill Performs for Rizzoli Music Aperitivo, Sunday, March 3rd

The next performance in the exciting Rizzoli Aperitivo Series is this coming Sunday March 3, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. Rizzoli is hosting the concert in its gorgeous space at 1133 Broadway (25th – 26th Streets), right here in NoMad.

Pyeng Threadgill will be performing selections from the vinyl release of her latest album Head Full of Hair, Heart Full of Song, which explores natural hair, ancestry, and adornment as sources of power for Black women and women of color. Joining Pyeng will be guitarist Andy Bianco and drummer Evan Pazner.

She will also be offering selections from her previous album Portholes to a Love & Other Short Stories inspired by short stories by world renowned authors such as Jamaica Kincaid, Isabelle Allende and Jhumpa Lahiri.

Pyeng reflected on the experience she hopes to give her audiences. “I use music to create spaces that tell stories. Sometimes the music is performed in a traditional music setting but lately I have been drawn to less traditional music spaces because of how they help people to reimagine music. I want for people to remember to fully connect to themselves through music by listening with their entire bodies and all their senses just the way one does when visiting someone’s home. This is what New Porch Music inspires me to look into. Our individual and collective stories. My hope is that before, during and afterwards you will consider the deeper ways in which music, conversation and even silence impact and connect us all.”
