NoMad Heroes: BLACKBARN and Heavenly Harvest Provide Meals for the Elderly Homebound
During difficult times, New York City’s food banks and soup kitchens are even more in need of resources. BLACKBARN and John Doherty are doing what they can to help. Currently, every BLACKBARN entrée purchased buys a Heavenly Harvest meal for the elderly homebound through Citymeals on Wheels.
In 2015, Chef John Doherty opened BLACKBARN restaurant in NoMad, as well as founding Heavenly Harvest, a nonprofit organization committed to helping address hunger. The former Waldorf Astoria Executive Chef is not only dedicated to making delicious, memorable meals for patrons of BLACKBARN, he is determined to make a positive impact on hunger.
Heavenly Harvest meals are chef-designed to meet or exceed USDA recommendations for an adult’s nutritional requirements per meal. High quality ingredients are used to prepare shelf-stable meals with no preservatives or artificial flavorings. They are meals individuals or families can enjoy and feel proud to put on their table. Meals are distributed to food banks and soup kitchens to reach those in need at no cost to them.

Now more than ever, efforts like these are essential to ensure people in our community are getting the support and sustenance they need.
