Esquire Best Bars in America: The NoMad
Esquire has named The NoMad one the best bars in America in a rave writeup. Not only does the writer have his facts down on the great cocktails at the NoMad, but he even manages to include some history of the NoMad neighborhood.
Esquire drinks correspondent David Wondrich writes about how The NoMad is a return to the classic New York hotel bar. Upscale and with great cocktails, Wondrich mentions the artistry and craftsmanship of The NoMad’s bartenders.
He also cites the NoMad neighborhood’s history as Satan’s Circus. He states, “There’s something wicked about the place, which is as it should be — its neighborhood, back when it hosted most of the city’s best hotels, earned the sobriquet ‘Satan’s Circus’ for the gambling halls, dance halls, and brothels surrounding the hotels.”
