Due in 2018, the Virgin Hotel New York Breaks Ground in NoMad

Virgin Hotel in nomad nyc breaks ground

Hotly anticipating the Virgin’s arrival in NoMad since it was first announced in 2013, we’ve been watching the empty lot on Broadway between 29th and 30th for a year waiting for the sound of construction equipment. Finally, Commercial Observer reported on Friday that the Virgin Hotel project, originally planned to open in 2016, is moving ahead toward a 2018 opening.

Len Cerame, a managing principal of VOA said, “The Virgin Hotel New York’s distinctive look is sure to play a key role in the NoMad neighborhood’s transformation process.” It will indeed mark a new level of development for the area. A few short years ago, few could have imagined that the Virgin, a leading international brand, would decide to place its first New York hotel in NoMad.

Virgin Hotel is committed to creating “lifestyle” environments. That is why the architects have conceived the hotel from the inside out, with the hotel room guest floors influencing the external appearance. Brian MacFarland, the lead architectural designer pointed out that selective massing allowed for a more interesting form and a greater number of corner rooms with better views. Additionally, a colossal scale mosaic of differing embossed stainless steel panels accentuate the design and elongate the building vertically, making the building ap9oopear more slender.

The 39-story, 465-key hotel will have 500,000 square feet of space with 30,000 dedicated to amenities such as a banquet hall, meeting spaces, conference rooms, open workspace, restaurants, a rooftop skybar and a pool and spa. There will also be 90,000 square feet of retail space at the hotel’s base.

When it is completed, the owners see the Virgin’s retail component and food and beverage offerings increasing foot traffic that will further invigorate the transforming NoMad neighborhood. Check back, we’ll have more as the hotel develops.
