Weekend in NoMad: Music, DJs, March Madness

From live Jazz to hip DJs to March Madness, NoMad has it all this weekend. Whether you want to support your school, catch some music or just hang out; you can do it all in the neighborhood.

Over the course of the weekend, Jazz Standard will host eight sets from Henry Butler: Roots & Beyond. This New Orleans piano virtuoso has been putting out records for almost 30 years. His Friday shows will be solo and his Saturday and Sunday shows will feature a trio.

The Jazz Gallery will have a couple diverse groups hit their stage. On Friday, they host the O’Farrill Brothers Band. This sextet performance will celebrate the release of the group’s new CD, Sensing Flight. Saturday’s show features the Joe Sanders’ Chamber Bass Project. Low-end fans will be glad to know that this seven-piece band features four bass players.

As always, Ace Hotel’s lobby bar will have some of NYC’s hippest DJs spinning. On Friday night, DJ Nelleke will hit the decks and on Saturday DJ Andy Beta will be on the turn tables.

If you missed it yesterday, we profiled some of the best spots in the NoMad neighborhood to watch this weekend’s March Madness games. Support your favorite school and enjoy delicious food at a variety of spots around the area. Also, don’t forget the NYC Improv Fest!

Have a great weekend!
