Hilary Knight and Bernadette Peters Introduce the 60th Anniversary Edition of Eloise at Rizzoli

rizzoli eloise 60th anniversary celebration with bernadette peters and hilary knight

Eloise, the classic children’s story, is celebrating its 60th Anniversary. On November 9th, Rizzoli Bookstore and Simon & Schuster will mark the anniversary with an event featuring the book’s illustrator Hilary Knight and Broadway-icon Bernadette Peters, who is the narrator of the Eloise audiobook.

The timeless book follows six-year-old Eloise, who lives in the “room on the tippy-top floor” at the iconic Plaza Hotel. Joined by her Nanny, dog Weenie, turtle Skipperdee, Eloise gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the Plaza Hotel through the eyes of a precocious child. (Some say she is modeled after Liza Minelli, who is the author’s goddaughter.)

The much buzzed-about anniversary edition includes not only the original story and illustration, but sketches and additional stories by Hilary Knight and photos of Kay Thompson, Eloise’s author. In conjunction with the release of the Eloise 60th Anniversary Edition, Simon & Schuster will also release audiobooks of EloiseEloise in Moscow and Eloise in Paris, all narrated by Bernadette Peters.

Hilary Knight is the illustrator of more than 50 books and the author of nine books. He has created artwork for magazines, children’s fashion advertisements, greeting cards, record albums and posters for Broadway musicals, including GypsyIreneHalf A SixpenceHallelujah Baby! and No, No Nanette.

Bernadette Peters — one of the most critically acclaimed Broadway, film, and TV performers — has dominated the New York stage for over three decades. What many don’t know about her is that she has written three children’s books of her own.
