“Your Vote Is Your Power” Julia Rivera Exhibition at MAISON 10

Your Vote Power NoMad Maison 10

“Your Vote Is Your Power” is Julia Rivera’s exhibition on display at MAISON 10.  Julia Rivera is an artist with a distinct voice and point of view that resonates during these turbulent times. The Bronx-born artist’s new solo exhibition is now on view at MAISON 10, 4 West 29th Street in Manhattan.

The artist presents work that engages its viewer through evocative imagery, strong colors, and skilled technique. Even her works’ titles demand consideration: “The question isn’t who’s going to let me,” “Be strong enough to stand alone,” and “When it’s time for me to walk away from something.”

The conversation she engages in places women squarely at the center. In most pieces, her subject’s eyes are obscured by shapes, which are unmistakably maps of the United States. Rivera explains to MAISON 10, “Because it’s like we’re blind. We’re not seeing what’s going on.”

Wherever you fall on the political spectrum, Rivera’s work is sure to engage.  For some, it may raise questions about the role of women in our world or reassure some basic tenets. For others, it may conjure up personal conflict, kindle anger , or inspire action. This diversity of emotions is testament to the art and artist’s ability to evoke a complex message.

Rivera shares, “I don’t want a painting that just decorates; I want to paint a story. And right now, this is a story. This is part of history, what we’re living through. I want to put that in a painting.”
