Weekend in NoMad: Fall Restaurant News Review

Learn about new items at The Breslin, lunch at Cosme, Danny Meyer's Marta and more in the NoMad Fall Restaurant Review.

With the start of the fall season, NoMad and the Madison Square Park area have seen a flood of new restaurant openings and menu changes. Check out some of the season’s most exciting restaurant news:

Park Avenue AutumnGeneral Assembly abruptly announced that they were rebranding their space and menu as Park Avenue Autumn, a concept that provides a rotating menu and decor based on the season. The current autumn restaurant is already open and boasts a dining room elaborately decorated with fall foliage and tree branches. The autumn menu includes items like the Black Friday toast with turkey-sage sausage, crispy shrimp Autumn Haystack, and toasted almond gnudi with spiced apricots and cauliflower.

The NoMad Halloween Masquerade Ball – Tickets are now on sale for The NoMad’s annual Halloween Masquerade Ball. The black-tie event requires a mask, but comes with a night of entertainment from the Sugartone Brass Band, Grupo Irek, DJ Matt Seigel and the Chris Norton Septet. Theory 11 will provide magical illusions and parlor tricks. Tickets cost $250 and are available online.

The Breslin – NoMad-staple The Breslin announces the addition of a new item to their lunch and dinner menus: a corn and hominy chowder with littleneck clams, corn nuts and chili.

Cosme – Up-and-coming Mexican Chef Enrique Olvera prepares to open his first restaurant in the United States. Cosme, located at 35 E 21st Street just south of NoMad, formally opens October 28th, but is already taking reservations online. The restaurant released photos of the decor this past week and offered up more details on the food service — no menu item will cost more than $25 and the restaurant will use special stone-filled baskets to assure that tortillas will stay warm.

élan – David Waltuck’s 20th Street-based restaurant started offering lunch service this past week. The lunch menu includes items like Waltuck’s seafood sausage in a bun with sauerkraut butter, kung pao fried chicken salad with soba noodles, and spiced lamb burger with chickpea fries.

Marta – Have you had a chance to try Marta yet? Marta, the new pizzeria from Danny Meyer‘s Union Square Hospitality Group, is one of the year’s most highly-anticipated restaurant openings. Stop by NoMad and try out Marta’s lunch options, from entrees like the Salmerino (Arctic Char and a fennel-olive salad) to their trademarks pizzas like the Funghi (fontina, hen of the woods, red onion, thyme).
