Weekend in NoMad: Jazz Takes Over
There is always lots to do in NoMad NY every weekend. In honor of The Jazz Gallery opening up their NoMad location last night, we decided to highlight Jazz events going on in the neighborhood this weekend.
Jazz Standard
Jeff “Tain” Watts will perform on both Friday and Saturday nights. In his 30+ year career, Watts has played in the bands of both Wynton and Branford Marsalis. He has also performed or recorded with acts including McCoy Tyner, Kenny Garrett, Alice Coltrane and the late Michael Brecker. Watts will perform on Friday night with his Blu 4 band and Saturday/Sunday nights with his Family Reunion Band. Head over to The Jazz Standard website for more information.
The Jazz Gallery
As we profiled earlier this week, The Jazz Gallery (who recently relocated from Hudson Square) has opened their doors following last night’s Darius Jones performance. This weekend will feature a two night performance by the Pedro Giruado Jazz Orchestra. The Argentine-born Giruado is an expert bandleader who has received much praise in the press.
The Flatiron Room
Another recent addition to the NoMad NY area, The Flatiron Room has almost any whiskey you could ever think of, dim lights and great music. This spot has become a popular after work hang and a great place to take a date. This weekend, they have two different performers. The Maria Manousaki Quartet will perform on Friday night from 9pm to midnight. The Chuck Braman Jazz Trio will perform on Saturday night from 9pm to midnight as well.
Everyone have a great weekend and consider checking out all the culture NoMad NY has to offer!
