Ways to Help Victims of Sandy
There many ways to help victims of Sandy. Disasters like Hurricane Sandy remind us all that at our core, our city is one big community. When members of our community are in need, it is our duty to come to their help. While NoMad lost power, and still is without power for the most part, we must turn our attention to those in our midst who are in dire need of help.
American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is providing supplies, food, shelter and blood to victims of Sandy. An easy way to donate is to text the word REDCROSS to 90999. By sending this text, you will donate $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief, which will be charged in your cell phone bill.
Salvation Army
The Salvation Army is also offering ways to help victims of Sandy. They are providing shelter and meals to victims of the hurricane. You can donate to them in a similar way as well. To make a $10 donation, text the word STORM to 80888.
NYCService
Mayor Bloomberg has been urging New Yorkers to get involved through NYCService. He described this as the “best way” to help. To get involved email nycservice[at]cityhall[dot]nyc[dot]gov with your name, email address and borough.
Grassroots Help
Occupy Sandy has been running a robust Sandy relief effort that includes street medics, supply distribution and transportation of volunteers to affected areas.
