Virgin Hotel NoMad Is on Its Way Up
As part of a multi-city expansion of Richard Branson’s stylish Virgin Hotel chain, construction workers officially broke ground on the new Virgin Hotel NoMad at Broadway and 30th Street in 2015. As of May 2017, as YIMBY reports, construction has now surpassed the 10th floor, well on its way up to its final 38 floors and an ultimate height of 476 feet.
The new hotel, located at 1225 Broadway, will be the second U.S. location for Virgin and the first in New York City. Designed by VOA Associates, the hotel will feature a podium at its base offering 100,000 square feet of retail space, with an additional 300,000 square feet dedicated to the hotel itself. When finished, the property will add 460 guest rooms to NoMad—another significant step in the current rapid expansion and redevelopment of our vibrant neighborhood.
A portion of the hotel’s retail space has already been spoken for. Earlier this spring, the UK-based indoor mini-golf chain Crazy Golf signed a 15-year lease to occupy the below-ground retail space of the new hotel.
There’s no official word on when construction will be completed, but general estimates put it sometime in mid to late 2019.
