Ron Carter Big Band Plays Jazz Standard
Legendary bassist Ron Carter leads his Big Band through four nights at the Jazz Standard in NoMad. The run of shows began last night and continues through Sunday.
Carter, who is perhaps best known as a driving force behind Miles Davis’s sixties quintet, has recorded 39 albums as a bandleader, and he has appeared on countless other recordings as a side musician. Carter has recorded with a number of musical icons: Quincy Jones, Chick Corea, Geri Allen, Paul Simon, Chet Baker, A Tribe Called Quest, Herbie Hancock, Stan Getz and many more.
Carter’s most recent album, ‘Ron Carter’s Great Big Band’ (Sunnyside Records, 2011), is Carter’s first time performing with his own big band. Jim Macnie of The Village Voice said of the album, “From ‘Con Alma’ to ‘Footprints’ to ‘St. Louis Blues,’ each track boasts a great punch, as well as [a] moment or two of fantasia. There’s something wonderfully simple yet rich to these charts.”
The Ron Carter Big Band will play sets at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday night. Tickets to Thursday and Sunday concerts cost $30. Tickets for Friday and Saturday shows cost $35 per person. Tickets are available for purchase online.
