Ride NYC In Style with the Gansevoort Tour de Domestique
With so many new hotels in NoMad, all competing for the best ambience and amenities, the Gansevoort Park has managed to come up with an entirely new kind of guest package. Enter Tour de Domestique Cycling, a unique offering that lets guests intimately experience New York while getting a great workout.
The Domestique offers guided cycling trips around New York City with expert riders and lets you do so in style, using the best cycling gear available! The Domestique has received attention from Men’s Journal, The Financial Review and Qantas Magazine, each praising the experience, which includes standard rides through Central Park and guided trips upstate — all the way to Bear Mountain!
The touring company was founded by James Phillips, a native Australian who has competed in eight Ironman competitions and is a lifelong cycling enthusiast. It turns out that the new package at the Gansevoort was years in the making, after Phillips befriended Gansevoort Meatpacking GM Jean-Francois Tremblay.
“I met Jean-Francois back in the day when I worked at Rapha Cycle Club,” Phillips told Experience NoMad. “He would come in most mornings for a coffee and a general chat about all things cycling. Last year I had to give up my business location in TriBeCa so I contacted Jean-Francois about the possibility of working with the Gansevoort to offer the first in-house cycling package in New York City.”
The guests of The Gansevoort are picked up by Phillips and his team for their curated ride through the city and Central Park, replete with a choice of either 2017 Specialized Expert E Tap or 2017 Specialized Tarmac Comp Ultegra bikes for the ride.
The package includes early check-in and late checkout at the hotel, complimentary bottles of Fiji water and, of course, the guided trip through the city with some of the best cyclists in the world for just $300 per person.
James Phillips is proud of the company he has built and the experiences he is making available to Gansevoort guests.
“I’m still the only company in New York offering this type of service,” he said. “I’ve worked hard to make sure each and every guest receives the full Domestique experience. This reflects in the equipment I choose, the routes I choose and close attention I pay to the level of rider/cyclist I’m guiding. It’s more than a tour, it’s NYC through my eyes with added insights into this amazing metropolis I call home.”
