Regina Carter’s ‘Southern Comfort’ at Jazz Standard
Head over to Jazz Standard in NoMad this week to catch Regina Carter, acclaimed jazz violinist and MacArthur fellow Carter will lead her quintet in material from her latest LP Southern Comfort.
The album, released earlier this year on Sony Music Masterworks, is an eclectic exploration of southern music. Southern Comfort draws influences from a wide range of sources, from Gram Parsons to Hank Williams.
The quintet consists of Carter on violin, Marvin Sewell on guitar, Will Holshouser on accordion, Chris Lightcap on bass and Alvester Garnett on drums. The ensemble will play sets at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday evening, with additional sets at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday. Thursday and Sunday evening shows cost $25; tickets for Friday and Saturday shows are going for $30.
