Polyglot Theatre’s “Ants” Coming to Madison Square Park June 5-8

Warning: Giant ants are coming to Madison Square Park.

From June 5th to June 8th, the Polyglot Theatre will be bringing its interactive performance Ants into the park. Several times a day, three larger-than-life ants will captivate children and adults alike by busily arranging hundreds of giant “breadcrumbs” throughout the park, frequently inviting observers to help out with the process. Over time, observers will recognize various patterns emerging as a “world of meaning unfolds.” The troupe describes the Ants experience as “an enchanting investigation into the nature of work and children’s relationship with their environment.”

Based in Australia, Polyglot Theatre is an organization focused on creating interactive and participatory theatre for children and families. It describes its artistic approach as follows: “Inspired by the artwork, play and ideas of children, we create imagined worlds where audiences actively participate in performance through touch, play and encounter.”

Ants will be performing in juxtaposition with the opening of the park’s public art installation, “City in the Grass” by artist Leonardo Drew, which opens June 3rd and will be on display through mid-December.
