Opening Ceremony Special Collection for LGBT Pride Month To Benefit Pulse Victims
A new collection of T-shirts, hats and sweatshirts by Opening Ceremony in honor of LGBT Pride Month is drawing extra attention this year due to its celebration of historic New York gay bars, which led the way to acceptance and legal protections for the LBGT community nationwide.
The items in this special collection range between $25 and $60 and all proceeds from sales of the collection will go to help Pulse victims and their families.
New York concept store Opening Ceremony, with a location in the Ace Hotel right here in NoMad, has been releasing special collections for Pride Month for years, but this one carries added emotional weight. Months ago, Opening Ceremony decided that it would be a good time to honor all the New York gay bars that long served as safe spaces for the LGBT community to socialize and celebrate. So the brand contacted historic bars like the Stonewall Inn, the Eagle, the Monster and Meow Mix to discuss featuring them for this special collection.
Of course this year’s Pride Month comes after the tragedy at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, and many will be mindful of lives lost during what should be a time for pure celebration. The fact that it was an LGBT nightclub targeted in Orlando also adds special resonance to the Opening Ceremony line. Like historic New York gay bars, Pulse was a place for the LGBT community to find safety and expression.
Many of the collection items have already sold out on the Opening Ceremony online store, but you can stop by the Opening Ceremony retail location in the Ace Hotel to see if they have more items still available. Check out the collection before the New York Pride events this weekend, and support the victims of the Pulse tragedy and their families.
Opening ceremony is located at 1190-1192 Broadway and store hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. except Sundays when hours are 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
