Num Pang Sandwich Shop Celebrates New Cookbook at Rizzoli Bookstore
Two of NoMad’s notable neighbors are uniting, as Rizzoli Bookstore hosts the release of the brand new cookbook Num Pang on Tuesday, May 17th.
Num Pang features over 100 recipes inspired by Southeast Asian and Cambodian cuisines. Fans of the Num Pang Sandwich Shop will be thrilled to have recipes for its most popular sandwiches to try at home. Recipes for specially made Num Pang condiments, sides, and salads are also included in the cookbook, such as Pickled Five-Spice Asian Pears, Sambal Chili Glazed Chicken Wings and Green Papaya Salad.
The cookbook is emblematic of the wonderful run of success Num Pang has had since it opened its first location in 2009 near Union Square. The sandwich shop was founded by two college friends, Ratha Chaupoly and Ben Daitz, who reunited in New York City a few years after graduating and realized they both were interested in the restaurant industry. Inspired by his childhood in Cambodia, Chaupoly worked with Daitz to provide a new spin on Southeast Asian sandwich cuisine.
Most people are familiar with Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches, but Num Pang added inventive ingredients like Seared Coconut Tiger Shrimp and Hoisin Meatballs, all served on Num Pang’s signature Semolina Flour Baguette with the shop’s famous chili mayo. Today, Num Pang has eight locations in New York City and has won awards and high ratings from The Village Voice, Bon Appetit and Zagat.
Rizzoli Bookstore is home to some of the the most inventive literary events in New York, and this book release and signing promises to be a particularly lively affair, with sandwiches and beer provided to the crowd. Make sure to get in line before the festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. If you go, one thing is for sure — you won’t need to make any dinner plans!
