The New York Times Reviews Danny Meyer’s Marta
Marta, Danny Meyer’s new pizzeria in the Martha Washington Hotel, has received more than its share of rave reviews since opening a few months back. Speaking first hand, we loved the restaurant’s unique Roman-style pizzas when we visited for lunch back in October. The restaurant was recently reviewed by The New York Times and received a fantastic two stars and the Critic’s Pick. Check out what food critic Pete Wells had to say about the pizzeria:
“The crust at first-rank Roman pizzerias like Da Remo in Testaccio is often compared to a cracker, but crackers crumble. This doesn’t. It is more like the crust on a loaf of peasant bread from which all the soft crumbs have been stripped. It is durably crisp, unbendingly flat, and when you hold a slice by the edge, the rest of it juts out above the table like a cliff. Because everything I know about cliffs was learned from Wile E. Coyote, I kept waiting for the tip on each Marta slice to give way, but it never did.”
Marta is located inside The Martha Washington Hotel at 29 East 29th Street and is open 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. everyday. For more information, call (212) 651-3800.
