Madison Square Park Hosts Free Concerts All Summer Long
Summer isn’t summer without time spent lolling in the grass and enjoying a free outdoor concert or two. Now through July, Madison Square Park Conservancy is offering three weekly concert series that are sure to brighten your summer. Spend quality time with the kids at the Kids Concert Series, and help their physical and musical development. For you, there are the Oval Lawn and Above Ground series. They are the perfect addition to your coffee or lunch break — or both, if it’s that kind of a day.
Oval Lawn Series — Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.
The Oval Lawn series brings nationally famous acts from a wide range of genres to the park for the perfect morning pick-me-up. Enjoy everything from the jazz of Chris Potter to the vocals of Kiran Ahluwalia, who blends the classical traditions of India and Pakistan for a modern audience.
Upcoming act: Kat Edmunson
Above Ground Music Series — Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m.
Too often, rushing to make your train, you’re forced to pass by the talented buskers at your subway stop. The Above Ground Series takes the best subway acts from around the city and puts them center stage so you can truly appreciate the skill of the performers along your commute. Performers range from the city’s only all-female mariachi band and an all-saxophone quartet doing funky covers to singer-songwriters who have toured the world.
Upcoming act: Cathy Grier
Kids Concert Series – Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.
The Kids Concert Series brings the most popular acts in children’s music to the Farragut Lawn. Every Thursday morning, kids and parents are invited to gather for an hour of exciting songs that are sure to get your little one clapping and dancing.
Upcoming act: Jazz at Lincoln Center presents the WeBop Family Jazz Party
