Luke’s Lobster opened its NoMad location today, and are we glad. Now everyday we get to enjoy Luke’s menu of nutritious food low in calories and cholesterol.

A staple of the East Village for years, Luke’s tops “best of” lists for its lobster rolls year after year, because they ensure freshness from catch to customer. All of our “lobster freak” friends who used to travel to Maine for their fix, say Luke’s is the best lobster roll available in NYC.

Founded by Luke Holden, Luke’s Lobster has been described by The New York Times as “an affordable way to mainline Maine.” Luke knows a thing or two about Maine, having grown up there and being schooled in the seafood trade by his father, Jeff, who is the owner of seafood supplier Portland Shellfish. Through their longstanding relationships and connections, Luke and Jeff are able bring affordable lobster rolls directly to NYC audiences.

Luke and Jeff are serious about their lobster. Up until the lobster reaches your plate, it has only touched pristine Maine air Caught that morning and taken directly from the docks to Luke’s seafood company, the lobster is steamed, picked and packed in protective bags and sent south to Luke’s Lobster. With every part of the process closely tracked and scrutinized by Luke’s team, the highest quality is ensured.

Luke’s is also devoted to sustainability. As a result of strict regulations, Maine has a uniquely robust and healthy lobster population. With numerous measures put in place to ensure that undersized lobsters are not caught and fisherman have limits on how many lobsters they catch, the lobster population is afforded a chance to breed. To lend support to these efforts, Luke’s donates a portion of its proceeds to the Maine Lobstermen’s Community Alliance, and you can too by following the link here.

We have been eating at Luke’s for years and were lucky to sample some of the menu at the new NoMad location last week, and we can confidently agree with Luke’s assertion that his lobster rolls will be a hit in NoMad, as will their other fresh offerings — from crab to shrimp rolls, soups, great slaw and delicious sodas.
