Bill Cosby To Present At Jazz Gallery Honors
Legendary comedian Bill Cosby will present drummer Roy Haynes with the lifetime achievement award at the Jazz Gallery Honors on May 12th.
The event, curated by one of NoMad’s most popular jazz venues The Jazz Gallery, recognizes excellence in jazz performance and jazz-related business figures. This year’s ceremony celebrates Mr. Haynes, George Wein (founder of the Newport Jazz Festival) and The Jazz Gallery founders Roy Hargrove, Dale Fitzgerald and Lezlie Harrison.
Cosby, who has long been a fan of jazz, is a fitting choice to present the award. In addition to his work as a comedian, Cosby has taken time to tour and perform as a drummer. Cosby would often use the popularity of his TV shows and specials to promote and expose the work of his musician friends: Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie and Betty Carter.
The ceremony will take place at The Cabanas at the Maritime Hotel on Monday, May 12th. The night begins with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by a presentation and live music at 7 p.m. Performers for the evening include Darcy James Argue, Ron Blake, Marc Cary, Greg Hutchinson, Pederito Martinez, Renee Neufville, Dafnis Prieto and Miguel Zenon. A VIP dinner with the honorees will follow at 8:30 p.m.
Tickets are available to the public and can be purchased here.
