This month, NoMad welcomes yet another fabulous new hotel to the neighborhood: the Mondrian Park Avenue.
At Experience NoMad, we previewed the 189-room hotel as it neared completion over the summer. One of the big pieces of news to emerge about the hotel since that time is the 120-seat restaurant, Cleo, available for guests and the public on the floor level. Cleo offers cuisine inspired by the Eastern and Southern Mediterranean regions and is led by Chef Danny Elmaleh.
Also announced is the opening of two new nightlife spots in the hotel. The rooftop lounge, Fifteen Stories, promises stunning city views, an outdoor terrace, cocktails and small bites to go along with music and other nightly events. The hotel is also adding an exclusive underground club called Yours Truly, featuring a hidden entrance for New York’s discrete celebrities. The venues promise to become some of the most popular in the neighborhood, seeing as NYC nightlife legend Richie Akiva (10ak, Butter) collaborated on both.
Named after the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian, the hotel exudes artful luxury. The developers at Journal Hotels and SBE respected the 1918 vintage of the building while adding five additional floors to the roof. Guests will enjoy modern art throughout the hotel and guest rooms, as well as a major piece in the foyer by Ara Starck.
The founder and CEO of SBE, Sam Nazarian, spoke glowingly of the new hotel and its home in NoMad to Meetings & Conventions. “The Mondrian brand aligns perfectly with the NoMad neighborhood, and is an extremely valuable brand for SBE,” he said. “Its international allure is why we chose to give it priority in New York.”
The next time you’re walking down Park Avenue, take a stroll through the Mondrian Park Avenue lobby and welcome them to the neighborhood!
